Why Slatepad

The story

Anoosh built Slatepad to reduce the friction of editing HTML pages. HTML is the most universal format: every browser renders it, every LLM can generate it, and you can host it anywhere with no build step. What was missing was a way to make small edits without round-tripping back to the chat window.

LLMs are good at producing polished HTML, prototypes, one-pagers, pitch decks, and landing pages. They are less good at the last 10%: fixing a typo, nudging a heading, swapping a color, replacing one paragraph. Most people end up copying the HTML back into a chat window and asking for another revision. Slatepad short-circuits that loop.

Drop a file in, click anything on the page, edit it in place, and download the result. That is the whole product.

What it does

Slatepad is a click-to-edit visual layer over any HTML file. Click any text element to edit it in place. Select a range and the floating toolbar lets you change font size, color, weight, alignment, and links. Changes are autosaved to your browser every half second.

For teams using AI tooling, Slatepad supports direct editing via MCP. Connect your Anthropic key and the editor becomes a live canvas your assistant can update element by element.

Key properties

• Local-first. Your HTML stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored on a server.
• No accounts. Open the page, drop your file, get to work. No sign-up, no email, no OAuth.
• Works with any LLM. HTML from Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or written by hand all loads the same way.
• Optional AI assist. Bring your own Anthropic key or connect via MCP for in-place AI edits.
